The Roommate

Now let's talk about the roommate, I watched it wednesday night with a friend and well its definitely not one of my favorites. I hate when movies portray women as stupid and this movie succeeds in that. I mean really? How could Sarah not realize how crazy this Rebekah chick is. The movie seems very similar in character to the old Single White Female (1992) but if this is what they were going for then they failed severely. Although the cast tried very hard I felt that a lot was missing. Supposedly a suspense thriller, my friend who usually can't even handle the background music on scary movies was able to watch the movie while only covering her eyes once. The movie starsMinka Kelly, Leighton Meester, and Cam Gigandet. Leighton Meester does a very good job of acting crazy in this movie showing that she's not always the bitchy spoiled character she is like Blair in Gossip Girl. Cam of course plays a good boyfriend and Kelly, who I didn't really recognize, could have been better. She's playing in the rumored new Charlies Angels (2012) and I hope she gets some more practice.  So I leave with the decision that I'm not really impressed with this movie.

New York

Because New York is calling my name right now, lets talk about some movies that take place in New York:
New York Minute, I do not deny that at some low point in my life I loved Mary Kate and Ashley movies. Although this movie came out when they were a bit older (2004) I still rather enjoyed it. The thing about Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen isn't that they are great actresses, it is that they make every pre-teen girl wish she was a twin! I know my older sister and I always wish we were! The movie finds the two girls running around town trying to get to find one sisters missing planner which happens to carry her speech for an important debate. This was of course not the first movie where I saw the likes of New York but I feel it started that yearning to go there myself.

1960s classics such as West Side Story and Breakfast at Tiffanys are also filmed in New York
.
The Godfather, one of those movies that everyone has heard of and our kids will hear about. Filmed in 1972, The Godfather is highly ranked in the film festival but I have to say that it is not one of my favorites. Don't try to kill me through your computer, I know it is a great movie with great actors such as Al Pacino and Robert Duval (my two favs from the movie) but it is not one of those movies that I'll stop on while channel surfing. Just my opinion!

Does anyone else remember the greatness of Splash, filmed in New York 1984 it starred the great Tom Hanks and Daryl Hannah. About a man who falls in love with a mermaid who saved him as a child, it is a good family/comedy that I would love to watch again.

Lets not forget Ghostbusters. Who hasn't said that famous quote "Who you gonna call?" Bill Murray is young in this movie and Its one of his most popular. I also hear that they are making a new one next year including Eliza Dushku (who I loved in Dollhouse) and Anna Faris, can't wait to see how that is going to turn out.

You've Got Mail, Step mom, Gia, Men in Black.....there are so many movies that were filmed in or about New York and there is no way for me to talk about them all but I think I shall end with Cruel Intentions, Rees Witherspoon, Sarah Michelle Gellar, and Ryan Phillippe all star in this drama/seduction story about Kathryn (Gellar) who makes a bet with her step brother Sebastian (Phillippe) that if he can bed the famous virginal Annette (Witherspoon), he'll finally have a chance to get Kathryn. Of course as luck would have it, the ladies man falls for the beautiful "I want to wait for marriage" Annette and she can't possibly resist his charms or can she?

Priest

Hey guys!
I recently went to see Priest and I have to say I really liked it. I'm not as vampire obsessed as most but add in some hott characters and some good action and I'm sold! Paul Bettany, Cam Gigandet, and Karl Urban starred in this action-based sci-fi thriller where the world has become ravaged and ruled by the Church and protected behind walls from vampires who were supposedly wiped out by the trained warriors known as Priests. But when one Priest (Bettany) finds out his niece has been kidnapped by vampires, he goes on a journey to find her along with her boyfriend (Gigandent), and a fellow forgotten Priest (Maggie Q).

Paul Bettany is a very up-and-coming actor with a wide variety of roles. Whether its the angel Michael in Legion, tennis player in love in Wimbledon, or a vampire fighting Priest he is someone to look out for. Always the boyfriend and never the lead, Cam Gigandet surprises me with his skills in every movie. I think that with his cute qualities and lets not forget that body there is more to come from him.

PS. To all you True Blood lovers, Stephen Moyer plays a small likeable role in the film and I must say he looks good with a tan!
